Gary Layton was born and lived in Los Angeles, CA until the age of 14 when he moved to Newport, WA, graduating from Newport High School. He lived in Newport for about 20 years until in 1998 he made Yakima his home.
Serving families and friends during their time of loss and grief has been a true calling for Gary. After working for 18 years as a Funeral Arranger and Manager for the corporate funeral homes in Yakima, he realized his desire to truly serve families in the best way each families deserves was not being met in the corporate philosophy of funeral service. Because he wanted to return to why he chose this profession, he joined the team at Brookside Funeral Home, where the local, family owned philosophy aligns with his desire to serve families. Gary is also a Licensed Pre-Need Funeral Insurance Agent.
Gary has three daughters, 4 grandchildren (and growing) and two golden retrievers. He enjoys hiking, camping and barbecuing. Gary is a member of Yakima Southwest Rotary, volunteers at the Union Gospel Mission, serves as a Knight of Columbus at Holy Family Catholic Church, and is involved in many other community projects. His engaging personality, depth of experience, and genuine heart for others makes him an excellent fit with the staff and vision of Brookside Funeral Home.
Gary has also passed the certification class to become a Certified Therapy Dog Handler for Beacon.
